Why does this matter?

In the world of professional decoration, the durability of fabrics is an essential criterion. Whether in demanding residential projects or high-traffic commercial spaces, it is essential to ensure that the fabrics selected are suitable for the intended use.
However, there is often confusion between the two main abrasion resistance tests: Martindale e Wyzenbeek. Although they may seem similar at first glance, they are different methods, with results that are not directly comparable. This confusion can lead to inappropriate technical choices and misplaced expectations.

What does an abrasion resistance test measure?

Abrasion tests assess the number of consecutive frictions a fabric endures until it shows visible signs of wear. This indicator makes it possible to estimate its durability under real conditions of use.

The American standard: Wyzenbeek

• Mainly used in the United States
• The test applies a rectilinear movement (back and forth) between the fabric and a strip of cotton or abrasive canvas.
• Each back and forth movement counts as 1 “double rub”.
• Standard: ASTM D4157

Reference for interpretation:

• Até 9,000 double rubs: light use
• 10,000-15,000 double rubs: residential use
• 15,000-30,000 double rubs: light commercial use
• Above 30,000 double rubs: heavy commercial use

This year, under the theme “Instagram Edition”, the event embraced an interactive and digital approach, challenging visitors to experience and share design through sensory and immersive environments.

The most interactive edition yet

Organized for the first time in partnership with URBANA magazine, this edition of Sleep In brought together 17 architecture and design studios, live performances, showcooking sessions, cinema, and contemporary art — all within an environment designed to be experienced and shared.

The “Instagram Edition” theme challenged creators to design highly photogenic, scenographic, and immersive spaces — and it was within this context that our Evofabrics textiles and Harlequin wallpapers played an essential role.

In the world of textile decoration, some pairings become true icons. Such is the case of Charola and Castelo—two distinct fabrics that, when combined, create a unique visual and sensory harmony. Inspired by cultural heritage and monumental architecture, their names instantly evoke a sense of elegance, sophistication, and history.

The Charola fabric draws inspiration from the grandeur of the Charola in the Convent of Christ, in Tomar—one of the most remarkable examples of Manueline art in Portugal. Much like the monument itself, this fabric carries a sense of movement, light, and intricate detail. Its subtle, almost ethereal texture brings a rare delicacy to interiors, felt both through touch and in the visual composition of a space.
